General Levi Chase was one of America's most highly decorated fighter pilots. Levi Chase flew in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, including over 500 combat missions. He was awarded countless medals and decorations, including 3 Silver Stars for valor in combat. His many aerial victories were achieved in P 40s and P 51s, in North Africa and Southeast Asia. He was born in Cortland, NY in 1917. He died in 1994. He graduated from Cortland High School in 1936. He attended Syracuse University from 1937- 1940. He attended Albany Law School from 1946 - 1949. He enlisted as a private in 1941. He retired as major General in 1973. He is a Double Air Ace (12 Aerial Victories). In March of 1945 he was downed by enemy fire in Burma behind enemy lines.
